Reminiscences from the SEMICON

Shows - 1971-1995

  Do You Remember When…?

The industry was in its childhood? When two or three Semicon trade shows covered the entire world? When SEMI was a burgeoning organization…started by three industry stalwarts in 1971—Fred Kulicke, Bill Hugle and Phil Gregory?
By 1978 it had grown tremendously. Still, its representation by company was a gigantic 91% from the North American Industry and only 9% from the rest of the world. But that was changing. SEMI kept growing through its numerous regional trade shows and conferences, though SEMICON West remained the flagship among its total of eleven shows. Today its representation is just 44% from North America, while Japan makes up 28%, Europe 11%, Taiwan and Korea 6% each, Singapore 3%, China 1%, with the remaining 1% from the rest of the world.
