Jerry Hutcheson, VLSI Research’s founder, was
very active in the test side of the semiconductor business in the early
70’s. The following document is his internal notes about tester
evaluation, selection criteria, and recommendation in 1971. Jerry
recommended LSI Testing’s model 4042 but also noted that Teradyne’s
J-277 could be a strong candidate. His main concern on Teradyne was
their experience in MOS LSI testing, while LSI Testing had been
building testers for General Instruments for years.
