I joined Intel in 1986 and retired in 2006. Smoking was still permitted in a corner of the cafeteria in the original Mission Campus building. Since I smoked at that time, I'd go to the smoking corner frequently. Bob Noyce did the same. In my first encounter with him, he asked if he could join me and, impredded, I said "sure!" He was easy going, unassuming and a charming conversationalist, ready to talk about many topics other than semiconductor ICs. I remember thinking after that first encounter that I was indeed lucky to have joined Intel. -Ryan Hoover
